Feio was born in Lever, Vila Nova de Gaia, on May 5, 1942.
He later settled in Mozambique, where he began his life connected to the visual arts. His first exhibition (still as a portrait artist) took place at the Commercial Association of the city of Beira in 1967. In Mozambique, it was mainly the warmth and human activity that influenced him.
It was the friendship that FEIO cultivates like no one else, the support of people connected to culture and art, and the experiences of a simple and kind population that undoubtedly shaped the distinctive style of his work during that period. Hence, the human figure appears as a fundamental element in his paintings. The portrayal of people and their attitudes immediately conveys to us a way of being and living.
He returned to Portugal in 1975—a reunion with his past and with the land where he was born, which he began to depict with his brush. If the Douro River has so profoundly influenced the history of Porto and of the country itself, it has also influenced the painter. This influence is most likely linked to his homeland—Lever—and to the city where he was born—Porto.
